On The Road

Next week I'll be flying to the ol' home town for a few days to hang out with friends and family. In my head I'm already there, which may explain why I'm even more lethargic than usual...

Stop, Hey, What's That Sound

Reading John J. Miller's National Review list of the "50 Best Conservative Songs" reminds me of all those hard-line law and order types (including, apparently, the producers of the show Cops) who thought the reggae song Bad Boys was pro-police.

To wit:

Won’t Get Fooled Again, by The Who. "The conservative movement is full of disillusioned revolutionaries; this could be their theme song, an oath that swears off naïve idealism once and for all." God knows there’s none of that "naive idealism" stuff in the conservative movement…

Janie’s Got a Gun, by Aerosmith. "How the right to bear arms can protect women from sexual predators…" Huh?

My City Was Gone, by The Pretenders. "Virtually every conservative knows the bass line, which supplies the theme music for Limbaugh’s radio show. But the lyrics also display a Jane Jacobs sensibility against central planning…" Oh for Chrissake, this is one of the most anticapitalist songs ever written!

Keep Your Hands to Yourself, by The Georgia Satellites. "An outstanding vocal performance, with lyrics that affirm old-time sexual mores…" Is this guy actually listening to the songs he’s citing?

Well, it's all pretty silly, but then again it's no sillier than some of the stretches Dave Marsh has made to advance his agenda. Unless you really do believe that Madonna's Holiday was intended as a sardonic commentary on the capitalistic excesses of the Reagan era...

Co-winkydink? I Think Not...

I'm surprised no one has picked up on this yet...

Grey-haired soulster Taylor Hicks...

Bible-thumping con artist Benny Hinn...

I mean, is there a separated-at-birth thing going on here? Or maybe Hicks is actually Hinn in Witness Protection. Can't wait to hear Art Bell's take on this...

Also, note the Amazon stuff down the right-hand side. I'll be updating the available selections from time to time, so check it out, will ya? I would consdier it a financial pleasure if you were to do so.

Dare To Be Stupid

Just when I thought the world of political commentary couldn't get any more stupid, along comes this gem from the man who brought you The War Against Christmas...

There's a glut of political commentary on Radio/TV/Weblogs...and ninety percent of it is crap.

I'm convinced there's a backlash coming against Stupid Commentary.

There's just too damn much of it out there - and it's getting worse all the time. You can only get so stupid before you're like the Goony Bird described in one of William Goldman's books, flying in an ever-tightening gyre...

...until you're swallowed up by your own asshole...

That pretty much describes the state of Talk Media today.

Give 'em Hell, Polly...

Polly Thornton is mad as heck, and gosh-darnit, she's not gonna take it anymore.

Watch for this woman to get her own syndicated talk show any day now...

(Thanks to the Comics Curmudgeon...)

Hello...I'm Dr. Deweycheatem N. Howe...

Those Nigerian email scam things have been making their rounds for a few years now (with the occasional variation, like the guy "writing from South Africa" who needs help moving Krugerrands out of the country).

Well, have you ever wondered whether anyone is taken in by them? Sad to say the answer is yes. Consider it a word to the wise...

The Wisdom Of The Common Man (yeah, right)...

Check out this transcript of Reason editor Nick Gillespie's recent appearance on O'Reilly.

Now check out the responses...

More than ever I'm convinced the Electoral College is a godsend...

PS: If doing talk radio/TV means pandering to people like this, you can have it...

D'oh!

Hey...all you smug neo-knownothing bloggers and squawk hosts who have taken great delight out of printing/reciting/circulating those Ten Facts About Immigrants from the LA Times...

You've been had, suckas...

On The Border

Here's yet another reason the "Kitty-Bar-The-Borders" crowd is full of it...
