Jim, I actually do some consulting with the NAB. Even Balko concedes that a combined XM/Sirius constitutes a monopoly of the satellite radio business. This will not benefot consumers.
XM and Sirius operate in both the local and national markets while broadcasters only operate in local market. A XM/Sirius monopoly could use it's newfound dominance in the national market to undercut advertising costs at the local level through cross-subsidization and anticompetitive behavior.
